As I write this post, my youngest child is enjoying "costume day" at school. It's been a merry-go-round of costume ideas this past week, including ""an old man", "the cowardly lion", a "hipster" (whatever that is), and "Dwight Shrute" from "the Office". He first wanted the cowardly lion, but I didn't have the time to get that one together. That would have taken major sewing on my part, and I just couldn't pull it together right now. So then I convinced him to dress as an "old man". We went to the thrift store and bought a hideous sweater. (sorry if this is offensive to any old men out there) ;) I planned to spray white hair spray in his hair, and use makeup to give him wrinkles. But yesterday he changed his mind, and said he would rather be Dwight Shrute. So back to the thrift store I went and picked up a gold colored short sleeved dress shirt. I still had the "old man pants", so he was able to wear those. He found a tacky tie to wear, and even added a tie clip. He put pencils in his pocket, and wore a sort of watch band that takes your pulse. I parted his hair in the middle, and he put on a pair of my husband's old glasses.
So here is my fear. I am worried that he will be so in to character that he is going to keep those strong prescription glasses on all day! I must have said a million times today, "Make sure you don't wear those while you are doing your class work!" I have this picture in my mind of his teacher writing on the chalkboard, and him sitting there looking through those glasses, seeing a big blur. But frankly, I don't think the glasses hurt his ability to focus as much as his attitude. Even with the glasses off, he probably won't be paying much attention.
And speaking of focus, don't you hate when your pictures are out of focus? I especially hate this when I come home from a trip, and can't go back and retake the picture! Here is an example from the slides I have been scanning.

My 4th daughter wanted to wear an old pair of her mother's glasses as part of senior citizen day. We took the lenses out so she just wore the frames.
A year ago I set my camera up on the tripod and got a nice group photo. Checked the picture on the camera back and all seemed well. Then I got home and saw the picture on the screen. The auto focus was off and I hadn't manually focused. Too bad.
My neighbour and good friend Chandru recently woke up one morning with double vision in one eye. After much testing and probing experts have concluded that nothing is wrong and that he will revert to normal soon. Apparently it is due to his diabetes. I however could not resist the temptation to tease him. For Chandru, who is 78, all females are Sweethearts and he takes great delight in calling them as such. I just told him that he now gets two sweethearts for the price of one, thanks to his vision.
I have difficulty with "glasses" as well. I have 2 pairs both for different things although originally I made "do" with the one pair.
When you get older opticians believe you need bi-focals but they do not necessarily work for everything...
I was informed at some point that if I wanted the bi-focal to work better with my computer - I would either need to upgrade to tri-focals or get a 2nd pair just for computer
the costs meant I now have 2 pairs! The computer pair do not work well with watching say the TV or even out there doing other things...which makes it more difficult at times to understand why things are not "focusing" as they should...
When I fail to avoid a mirror, I find lack of focus helps me considerably to preserve my mental self image without it coming into conflict with the objective reality.

I have a major problem with Focus--I have myopic astigmatism and both eyes focus in a different axis and I have cylinder and power. So I go to one optician who knows my problem. Slightest change in the angle of my specs and I end up with a severe headache.
Too bad about the focus, but it's still a beautiful image. I love that architecture and all the colors. Where was that taken (not that Taiwan lacks lots of buildings like that, of course)?
Vaxhacker, It has been many years, but I am pretty certain that this was taken at the "Grand Hotel" in Taipei. It is a building with classic chinese architecture, one of the few in the city. I wish all of their buildings could look like this!
Might be. I remember the front of the hotel and the lobby (wow, that was decorated ornately!) I love the intricate work they put into some of those buildings.
